[edit] My honours thesis

This message is not being automatically archived

Well the title was "Permutation Codes, Frequency Permutation Arrays and Constant Composition Codes for Powerline Communications". Call it high level would be wrong I think, since it was only an undergrad thesis. As per honours thesis instructions at my university, it's geared toward 4th year mathematics students who haven't taken any courses in coding theory, and so there's a good introduction to the topic. I graduated June this year. Currently looking for work. Here's a pdf of the thesis http://rapidshare.com/files/59765051/honoursproject1.pdf.html . Hopefully it will be useful. (Bengl 14:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

If you do a section on constant weight codes, then pretty much all of it can be used. Other than that, I think the intro is quite useful as a general introduction. The section on application to powerlines would be more applicable to one of your other books. So if you think something should go somewhere, let me know and I'll go ahead and insert it, so that my name shows up in the edit history ;). (Bengl 15:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC))
Cool, I'll probably get to that some time tomorrow. Also, I had a similar paper on Reed-Solomon codes, but i can't find it. (Bengl 15:32, 2 October 2007 (UTC))

[edit] java package save & compile process

when a package contain three class then which type we can compile it?

[edit] Watching books

This message will be archived normally

Is there a way to automatically watch all chapters in a book? I just started a new one (Training the Search and Rescue Dog) and want to watch as it expands.

Sorry to bug again, but you mentioned having links in the TOC to all pages in the book. So far, I've only been able to have the TOC link to the subheadings on the first page. I created some chapters, but these aren't listed in the TOC, which seems kinda backwards to me. Is there some documentation somewhere about getting chapters to show in the TOC?

[edit] Gre preparation merge

Hello Whiteknight, Sorry for the late response. Even I had been thinking about the Merge with the GRE book. But the thought we had was, we are going to cover information much more than just GRE, like TOEFL, application process, university selection process. Is it okay that we change the name of the book to something suitable at an later date?

[edit] RE: Glossary of terms

Hello,

I am a 78 yearold former programmer/analyst and I find I have been passed by in the field of computers. When I pick up a book to read or for instruction in the new systems I am constantly trying to figure out what is meant by some of the abbreviations and acronyms they use. It gets very confusing. Where can I get a book or list of these things as an aid to understanding what is written.

Thank you,

Ed Burdick

[edit] Thanks! (and a couple questions)

Thanks for the info about printable books and locking pages from edits. You are a lifesaver, and I really appreciate all your patience as we all try to ride the learning curve.

Last year, I thought about trying to be an admin, but I stopped short because I wondered how it would look for me to volunteer for a site I researched so much. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Finally, I was wondering if you'd be willing to post some more rating buttons in our third edition's Instructional Assessment section. We have posted the first one on A1.1.1, and this rating button is number 271. As a reminder, the complete rating button looks like this:

[edit] Wikibooks:The books

Shouldn't this page be moved to your userspace ? --Panic (talk) 03:22, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting an inactive user (usurping)

Hi,
I am contributing mainly to the Hebrew Wikipedia and I merged my username on most wiki projects to User:Daniel1. I noticed that this user is taken on this project. However, it has almost made no contributions and the ones that have been made are very old. Would it be possible to delete / move this username so I can use my merged name on this project too?
Thanks,
Daniel.

[edit] Bot request...

well, not a bot, but simply a regexp change.

On this one page: Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Index, every link is of the form

;description:Page

or

;description:Page

It would be more useful if this could be changed to:

;description:Section/Page
;description:bookname/Page

Is this relatively easy to do? Chazz (talk) 09:13, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for that. This isn't a critical change, but it is bugging me, has been for months. I'd do it myself if I had an editor which had a regexp I understood... Chazz (talk) 01:06, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Subject:Languages

How is the page Subject:Languages generated currently? It looks like you copied the main list of books, generated the page using a template, and then pasted the main list into the page. Is that the way to go? --91.67.23.55 (talk) 19:20, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry for that question (I was struggling with a iMac in an internet cafe). After looking at the page again: is it true that the currently installed dynamicpagelist extension doesn't allow more than 5 "notcategory"s and that it doesn't allow to order pages according to their title? Why would we use this in spite of these disadvantages? --Martin Kraus (talk) 09:25, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
